Our Flexible Admission Policy may be right for you

COLTS aims to create and train outdoor leaders; the flexible admission allows previously trained and competent outdoor leaders to fast-track their way to leading trips for Crowsnest Lake Bible Camp (CLBC)

Minimum Prerequisites

1. Minimum 19 years old by the start date of the program.
2. Growing and mature Christian with a strong desire to minister to people through the wilderness.
3. Standard First Aid (SFA).

Option 1: COLTS - Four Month

Successful completion of COLTS Training (Four month option).

Option 2: COLTS Two Month Plus

Successful completion of COLTS Training (Two month option).


Lead/Co-lead 4 out-trips within 5 years after completing COLTS training.

Option 3: Flexible Admission

Prerequisites:

1. Minimum of 16 backpacking trips (2+ nights, 10+ km). At least half as the organizer/leader of the trip.
2. Strong, mature Christian who upholds CLBC’s mission and mandate.
3. Demonstrates a strong ability to lead, make decisions in the backcountry, problem solve, manage a group, influence people, teach backpacking, etc.
4. 40h WFA or higher.
5. Three satisfactory references.

Preference given to those with:

· Previous employment in the outdoor industry.
· Previous experience guiding or instructing.
· Valid and applicable outdoor certificates (ACMG, OCC, IGA, LNT, CAA, NOLS, SAR, etc.)
· Post-secondary education in a related field (outdoor leadership, biblical/theological studies, environmental science, adventure studies, eco-tourism, leadership studies, etc.)


  • Partake in 1-5 days of in-house training with the Director of Outdoor Programs or delegate.


  • Co-lead 2 out-trips.


Demonstrate the core competencies at a satisfactory level.

CLBC Out-trip Director

  • CLBC brings ~600 kids on backpacking trips each year, ranging from 2-days to 10-days in length.

  • We have trained over 180 outdoor guides since we started COLTS in 1987.

  • Leading out-trips at CLBC counts towards industry hours and professional development.

  • Using the Flexible Admission Policy enables us to lead more out-trips using vetted professionals.
